Spring is just around the corner so I thought I’d liven up my wardrobe with a pair of polka dot jeans. Tall-sized polka dot jeans. Here are my thoughts:

  • Size: I’m wearing a size 30 tall from J.Crew. The inseam is 30″ long, just barely grazing my ankles. The length is fine for me, but for someone else with longer legs, these pants would likely be too short.
  • Fit: The overall fit is okay. The photos don’t really show it, but the pants are two inches too big around my hips. I have this problem often because of my body type. The fit through the thigh is great—not too tight and not too loose—but I do plan to return these for a smaller size. Hopefully my thighs will still be able to squeeze into a smaller size!
  • Material: The material is cotton with a hint of stretch. This makes the pants fairly comfortable and easy to move around in. It also makes the pants look like dress pants even though they are jeans. Win!
  • Pattern: The polka dots are a little crazy, but who doesn’t need a little crazy in their life?! The small scale of the polka dots makes them a little less crazy.

Surprisingly, these pants are rather flattering. Typically, you’re not supposed to wear pattern on your trouble areas, but I think the busyness of the polka dots actually distracts from those areas.

Readers: Would you wear these crazy polka dot pants? In your experience, how has the fit of the J.Crew toothpick jean worked for you?

Oh my gosh Kathy! I love this look. It seems that printed skinny pants are popular right now and this is a print I think I could do. And I TOTALLY agree about adding a little crazy to the wardrobe every now and again. I’m trying to do more of that. Re the fit of the toothpick jean, I think we chatted before about having similar fit problems with pants due to body type. I often find that pants that fit in the thighs and buns are a bit loose in the waist. Sigh! I’m not sure I would chance trying these pants (although I could just order them and return them if they don’t work out.)

I’m so sad to hear that at 30” they may be too short for me (6’1”). I’m going to try a different brand and hopefully those work with a 32” inseam!
